It was much too hot. That was his first clue and what first had him seeking a place in the forest for himself. Asato never had claimed a room of his own (he hadn't even considered the idea that he was allowed) and so had no place to lock himself into when it started.

The heat was followed by pain and need and restless energy as it always was. There were no other Ribika here he would or could seek out and even if they're were, they wouldn't have been Konoe.

So, Asato would have to content himself with the makeshift shelter he'd made in the forest. A simple canopy over a collection of blankets he'd taken from the cupboards inside with a few objects of interest. He was trying to distract himself from the discomfort with a book, but eventually he could even focus on that and just lay down, curled up on himself, and tried not to cry.

even MORE ooc notes: He's in pain, and might be a bit more tense and snippy than is normal for him, but he's still Asato and still friendly.

There's going to be a cat sitting on her hunches, not too far.

She's observing him, and if he's not flailing her off, she might quietly pad over and just curl up around him protectively.

"Hey you" - in a very mild, somewhat worried tone. "What are you up to here, isolated?"

Adrian will keep a cautious distance for now, he doesn't want to frighten or annoy Asato.

"I was always alone," he says. Asato isn't looking for pity or anything, just relaying information. "Then Konoe came and I wasn't alone anymore. He's mated, but we are friends still. He was my only friend from before."

There's a slight rolling accent to his words as he purrs and speaks at the same time, but he's still understandable.

Distance is good for now. Adrian is a friend, but Asato isn't sure what he will do.

"I'm keeping away until it's done."

Anita isn't flailed off and he's grateful for the company, shifting over to curl up against her warm side and bury his face in her fur. He still doesn't know what to make of the kindness he's being shown, but ... he's not going to say no.

She'll purr a little, it's easy to cuddle with pard when you're a cat. She doesn't speak but might shift to curl more closely into him, just trying to give him heat. She's needed it before, she knows the feeling.

Asato answers her purr with one of his own. "Thank you," he says, voice soft and muffled against her.

"I'm sorry for being a burden."

Merlin listens, he nods, and with these words, feels the desire to do something, so his hand gently rubs his back, soothingly. "Well, you don't have to be alone anymore, lad," he murmurs. "You have friends, now - and those are sometimes as good as a family."

Asato nods against Merlin, keeping it from turning into a rubbing or scent marking by force of will alone.

"I ... I have lots of friends here. I miss my own kind though." His ears lower out of shame for admitting that. He should be happy. He has more friends here than he ever thought he'd have. He was well fed, and safe. But ... He missed other cats. "I'm sorry."

"Until what is done?"

Adrian crouches on the ground, trying not to look very worried - his friend definitely seems troubled by something.

The leopard purrs a little louder, nuzzles him soothingly. Silly cat. You're not a burden, she's saying. It's almost motherly - it's certainly protective.

"Don't be silly," she purrs. "You're pack."

Aaaand might we poke Asato and Iggy in their threads with the dragon and her knight?

"Hush, it's alright," Merlin replies patiently. "It's nothing to apologize for, and a completely normal feeling," he tells him. "Of course, I could tell you that I miss my own kind, but it would demand that I know what it is..."

Ears flick forward and Asato considers Adrian. "The heat."

"Pack?" He sounds a bit confused and slightly mystified.

"Still..." Asato sighs softly, his tail flicking absently against Merlin. "I should be more grateful for what I have and not be such a b-burden on my friends now."

"Hm. It's not that hot outside, though. But perhaps you're sensitive to the temperature, more than I anyway. Do you think something cold to drink would help?"

Here we was worried about being teased, but ... Did Adrian not know about Heat? Asato shook his head.

"No, it's the heat inside. It will pass."

"Pack, pard, family, if you prefer." She licks at the top of his head. "Don't fret so much, kitten. It'll be alright."

"Hush, lad. I for one am relieved that I can be of use, if only marginally. You are no burden, truly."

"--inside?" He doesn't really understand, nor does he know anything about cats to have some sort of reference. "You mean, like a fever?"

"I could ... be family?" He's a bit taken aback by this. He didn't have family. Not even his 'aunt' really wanted him back home. Here though... Maybe there were no other Ribika, but ... he could have a family?

That's the trouble with relying so much on notifs. ^^;; If I miss one or it gets deleted or something or LJ is being a pest and not sending them, it just falls out of my head. &heart

"Thank you sir." Asato huddles up abit again, purring softly and sitting quietly a few minutes more before speaking again.

"The man in the forest, Muraki... he said that there was something else in the forest and seemed surprised when I said it was something worse than him."

Even when he's feeling poorly, Asato wants to be helpful and useful.

Asato tilts his head, reaching up to run a hand through his hair again. "You don't know...? It's like a fever, yes. But ... it hurts and it can be dangerous without a proper mate." Might as well be blunt.

"Yeah, if you want," she replies. "That's how it works, here - people make new families, because most of us are here alone..."

Blink, blink. Without a--. Well he won't try to go into detail, it's a bit odd for him, but hey, Asato is his friend. He might not be a, er, proper mate, but perhaps he can at least be comforting?

"Look, just tell me if I can do anything for you, alright? Like, if you need water-- or someone to just sit and talk to you. Or anything else that's in my power, really."
