Carpe - When the hunting is good... [Closed]

Asato is putting the last minute touches on his blades before heading out into the snowy forest for a hunt. A bit of fowl would be nice and he could share it with Merlin if the old human was willing. Perhaps even a hare. Those were quite tasty.

He wondered for a moment if he should seek out Benjen for a hunt, but he wasn't sure if the human was available or willing.

"We shall see when we hunt this summer," Benjen replies, smoothly making plans to spend much time with Asato in the future. He watches Asato for any reaction to the assumption.

Asato looks pleased at the idea of having a hunting partner in the summer as well. "You will regret making that claim then," he says, voice a bit softer as it is when he makes a joke or teases. There's always the chance that it won't be taken well and he doesn't like to upset friends.

"We will discover what is truth in the future," Benjen answers, and Asato is given a smile. "And who has regrets, if anyone."

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Asato relaxes a bit when Benjen doesn't react poorly to his hesitant teasing.

"We will indeed see. Shall we continue on? Or return to the fire?"

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Let us return to the warmth of the fire. Ribika may be able to ignore the cold, but it is seeping into my bones." That worries him slightly. He's going soft, perhaps. It was far colder at the Wall but just now, he feels the chill.

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Asato nods in agreement and starts back for home. "We feel the cold," he admits. "This place gets colder than my own home did, though we did have snow. Four seasons, each distinct and with it's own troubles and benefits."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Are your four seasons like those I've heard are experienced here?"

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Asato nods. "Very much like. Spring brings many kinds of flowers and rain when it's not cool and clear. Summer is hot and the air can be heavy with the heat. That's a good time to swim. Fall is when the trees and plants change color and winter, it snows in some places. Others have more rain and cold wind."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Winter can last a decade in the Westeros," Benjen murmurs. "Children born of summer have no idea what is before them."

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is a long time to be without green," Asato says. He can't quite imagine a winter lasting so long.

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like the winter here. 'Tis mild compared to our own," Benjen states. "I think you would not like my home land."

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Asato laughs very softly, almost to himself. "I do not think your home land would like me either," he points out.

"My forests are nothing like this and there is not as much snow. You wouldn't like mine. So it's good that we're here."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-04 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
"What would I find unfavorable in your own?" Benjen asks, truly interested in Asato's life, both here and before.

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"There isn't much snow. And the plants are very different as are the animals. There are monsters and walking trees that hunt." He thought for a moment then.

"Though the bladed grasses had finally receded into the deeper parts of the forest where they are not a threat."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Grasses with blades like swords?" Benjen asks for clarification.

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Asato nods. "Touching them would mean the loss of whatever you had touched them with. Fingers, hands, tails. Anything. And they are hard to tell from other kinds of grasses."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"A bit like frost bite then, but makes quick work of it," Benjen nods. "Dangerous and painful." He's speaking of both situations. "Both our worlds offer dangers."

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I think that's a common thing all over," Asato points out. "Dangers are part of nature."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Some dangers are more extreme than others. From what I hear spoken by others in this place, they come from worlds where they might safely nestle in abodes far apart from nature. Tis a foolish way to live, methinks."

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I've heard of that sort of thing," he admits. "But I cannot imagine it. I've always been around nature."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Winterfell, where I was a lad, was much more savage than places like King's Landing, but I expect the entire Westeros was more of nature than many modern lands," Benjen reflects. "And the Wall is the only barrier between the wild and all below it. In some ways, our homes were similar."

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"We don't have a Wall. There is a city Konoe took me to though. There were old buildings that were falling apart that we had build our own buildings on them. It was the largest place I'd ever seen."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Were you rebuilding the city or was it temporary shelter?"

[identity profile] misborncat.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Asato shakes his head. "Nobody knew how the old buildings were made and we couldn't repair them. Our city was built on top of it. That's what I was told anyway."

[identity profile] first-ranger.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Ancient lands," Benjen murmurs. He sounds approving, as if old lands are more worthy than newer worlds without such history. "It is well met, your building upon the old."
