Carpe - When the hunting is good... [Closed]

Asato is putting the last minute touches on his blades before heading out into the snowy forest for a hunt. A bit of fowl would be nice and he could share it with Merlin if the old human was willing. Perhaps even a hare. Those were quite tasty.

He wondered for a moment if he should seek out Benjen for a hunt, but he wasn't sure if the human was available or willing.

"Winterfell, where I was a lad, was much more savage than places like King's Landing, but I expect the entire Westeros was more of nature than many modern lands," Benjen reflects. "And the Wall is the only barrier between the wild and all below it. In some ways, our homes were similar."

"We don't have a Wall. There is a city Konoe took me to though. There were old buildings that were falling apart that we had build our own buildings on them. It was the largest place I'd ever seen."

"Were you rebuilding the city or was it temporary shelter?"

Asato shakes his head. "Nobody knew how the old buildings were made and we couldn't repair them. Our city was built on top of it. That's what I was told anyway."

"Ancient lands," Benjen murmurs. He sounds approving, as if old lands are more worthy than newer worlds without such history. "It is well met, your building upon the old."

"The elders talked about the spirits that used to live in such buildings and structures before returning to their places in the spirit world."

"In my world, the Cold Ones supposedly remained frozen in ice for years but some say they were back. I wonder if it was their spirit world as well."

"Cold Ones?" This is new to Asato.

"Ah, the Others that I spoke of before. They are also called this," Benjen explains.

Asato nods. "Oh, I see. We have the Void and the Devils to protect against."

"And here we have Morgoth and his evil wolves," Benjen remarks. He'd not take them so seriously if not for the sturdy warning by his brother. He trusts in Ned's cautions.

"I've seen the wolves and smelled the Evil in the hills. Different than what I faced back home, but still bad."

"My brother speaks of them as very evil. I find it curious they do not attack. It does not bode well, as if they have a plan," Benjen rubs his chin.

"They do not always attack. I think they spend more time planning something terrible and ways to not get beaten back by the strong people here."

Benjen reflects on that a quiet moment. "Who are the strong people here? It sounds as if they form a Wall without tangible structure," he comments. He'll tell Asato more of his former home, if the Ribika asks, but he is first curious about what protections this Mansion really has around it.

"There are many people who were warriors before they came here," Asato begins. "They maintain that now. There are others with powerful magics that fight and defend and can do things that I've only heard of in stories."
