It was much too hot. That was his first clue and what first had him seeking a place in the forest for himself. Asato never had claimed a room of his own (he hadn't even considered the idea that he was allowed) and so had no place to lock himself into when it started.

The heat was followed by pain and need and restless energy as it always was. There were no other Ribika here he would or could seek out and even if they're were, they wouldn't have been Konoe.

So, Asato would have to content himself with the makeshift shelter he'd made in the forest. A simple canopy over a collection of blankets he'd taken from the cupboards inside with a few objects of interest. He was trying to distract himself from the discomfort with a book, but eventually he could even focus on that and just lay down, curled up on himself, and tried not to cry.

even MORE ooc notes: He's in pain, and might be a bit more tense and snippy than is normal for him, but he's still Asato and still friendly.

It had been awhile since Miles had seen Asato. He was ashamed that in the confusion of the Red Moon he had forgotten, but now he was worried. Where could his Ribika friend be?

He remembered where Asato had shown him the shelter in the woods and decided to look there.

Asato iis curled up under some blankets he'd taken from an empty bedroom, dozing. His ears will flick towards the sound before Miles actually enters his little spot, and he looks up, pushing sweat-soaked hair back from his face.

"Asato!" Miles exclaims with a smile. "Here you are. I've missed you."

Asato brightens at the familiar face. "Miles! Hello." He sits up and smiles happily at his friend.

"Were you looking for me? I am sorry. I was here."

Miles notices the unkempt state of his friend. "Have you been feeling unwell?" he asks with concern, wondering if that was why Asato hadn't left his shelter.

Asato blushes a bit, though it's hard to tell, and he nods. "It's alright though. It'll be over soon and I'll be better."

"Are you sure?" Miles asks. "You look a bit feverish. Do you want me to get you anything?"

Asato shakes his head. "It's a common thing with my kind, but at least it only happens twice a year. Thank you for offering though Miles." He beams, despite the fever and shaking.

"Twice a - this happens regularly?" Miles asks, shaking his head. He doesn't understand, ironically.

He nods. "Yes. Both males and females go through their heat twice a year." He folds his arms over his stomach.

"It's not fun when you're all alone."

"Their... h-heat??" Miles did not see that one coming.

He tries to be a little more sensitive. "It must be hard, you're the only Ribika here that I know of... Is it almost over for you?"

Edgeworth's reaction has his shy back a bit and curl his tail up around himself. He wasn't expecting shock like that.

"I'm the only one here," he said. "But ... my family was here to offer support so that I wasn't all alone... It lasts the week, so a few more days."

"I'm sorry, please don't be upset," he says to Asato's reaction. "I just... didn't expect that, is all. Really, it was foolishness on my part to not even consider..." He trails off and shakes his head.

"So - your family?" Miles asks, confused, thinking Ribika. "But you're the only one here?"

Asato uncurls a bit and nods. "Yes, I'm the only Ribika here, but Anita and Merlin both say I'm like family." He smiles and, despite being six feet tall and having a deep baritone voice, seems even more childlike than before.

"I've never had family before. It's nice."

Miles smiles when he hears this. "That's wonderful, Asato," he says sincerely. "I'm glad you've found such a belonging, and that you finally have a family."

"You deserve one," he adds.

He smiles and, perhaps feeling a bit bolder from knowing he has a family and knowing he's not alone, offers:

"You are family too Miles."

Miles is a bit surprised to hear that. "Family? You think so?" he asks, not displeased.

"I could probably use some family around here," he admits. "Thank you, Asato." He smiles.

"Family's important." Asato beams, but a sudden jolt of pain reminds him why he's out here in the first place and he winces, folding his hands over his stomach.

"Asato, what's wrong? Are you all right?" Miles cries, reaching forward. He doesn't know exactly what "heat" entails, but he worries about his new friend being in pain.

He catches himself, hesitant and feeling awkward at the outburst. He's usually much more reserved.

Asato starts a bit at the outburst, though he's mostly confused. "I'm ... I'm okay Miles." He says. "It is just the heat. It hurts." He's not whining, only stating facts, though his voice is a bit breathy and strained.

"Are you sure there's nothing I can do for you, to make you more comfortable?" Miles asks.

Asato blushes a bit, then shook his head. "You aren't a cat," he says. "I do like you, but ... that wouldn't be fair or right."

Miles blushes deeply. "I...uh... um..." he stammers. "Yes, well, I suppose if that is the only thing, I can't very well, er, comply... Right."

His tail flicks a bit and he frowns. "Comply? I wouldn't ever force someone. Not ever."

"I know... I know," he finishes softly.

He sits there a moment more in awkward silence. "Um... Would you like me to read to you, Asato?" he asks.
